Woot Post – Primal Post Apocolyptic Souls in the Necropolis

We’ve hit a bit of a gaming drought since Fallout 4 came out in November. However, the gaming season is starting to heat up again with some great games coming out in the next couple months. Here are the games I’m most excited about in the coming days:

To say I’m a Souls fan would be an understatement. I’ve played every single Souls game, and I even bought a PS4 just so I could play Bloodborne! Well, that’s not entirely true, but it’s a pretty good boast! I’m am psyched out of my mind for another dive into the nebulous Souls series.
Dark Souls III sounds like it will be faster-paced than it’s predecessors, probably taking a page from the developer’s time with Bloodborne, which broke off from the traditional sword-and-board mentality of the previous iterations, and favored quick dodging and fast weapons.  This new iteration will be coming out on April 12th, so prepare for another three month long absence… just kidding! (No, but really)

I may be more excited about The Division than Dark Souls 3, and that’s saying something! The idea of a fun, cooperative, online, third-person cover shooter, with some MMO mixed into it, sounds amazing!. I’ve watched a lot of the closed-beta footage, and it looks right up my alley. I just hope the game doesn’t have an identity crisis like Destiny.  Destiny seems to be in a halfway state of fragmented worlds and load screens. I hope The Division does a better job of creating a breathing world.
I’ll be playing the open beta this weekend on PC, but it’s also available on the PS4 and XBox1. If you’re playing the PC version of the beta, you can look me up with my UPLAY username: RyanRad. My crew and I will also be on the Chats with Rad Teamspeak.  Feel free to join us, we may be having some Dark Zone fun!
Tom Clancy’s: The Division will be released on March 8th on all platforms, brought to you by da’ Clance!

Sometimes I feel guilty about how much of a Far Cry fan I am.  The games aren’t the best on the market, but I always find hours of enjoyment out of each iteration.  Maybe it’s the style? I didn’t much care for the first Far Cry, but I was over the moon for Far Cry 2. That game was a masterpiece for its time! I recall sitting on a friend’s couch and being mesmerized by the ridiculously awesome fire effects of setting an enemy camp on fire, displacing your enemies from cover! Far Cry 2 seemed like a new step in game-world interaction and enemy AI.
Since then, I’ve played all of the Far Cry games, and Primal will be no exception. I’m looking forward to taming my own prehistoric predator to assist me in taking down my enemies. Who doesn’t want a Saber-tooth Tiger as a murder companion!? It will be interesting to make your way through a prehistoric battleground with era-appropriate weaponry–definitely a step in a new direction for the series.

Far Cry Primal is coming out very soon, on Tuesday, February 23rd!

I seem to be mentioning “Hair Brained Schemes” on a constant basis lately, which makes me realize that they are one of those small developers, hiding in the shadows, releasing sleeper hits over and over. Their latest game to release, Necropolis, will be no exception.

Necropolis is a third-person action game, with similar gameplay to the Souls games in that it also uses a unique art style. Necropolis will be a rogue-like; that is, when you die, you start over. However, the game environment, enemy locations, and loot locations will be randomly generated each time you start over. Necropolis will also include cooperative play, which, if the Souls cooperative play is any indication, should prove to be a welcome addition to the game.

I’m looking forward to some dungeon delving with friends on March 17th, 2016! What games are you most looking forward to playing?
