What’s on your RADar?

RADar is a new feature, comin’ hot off the Rad pun express! In this feature, I’ll be touching on games that may not be on your RADar! These games will include both recently released games and games that are releasing soon– similar to my woot posts, but taking on a more ‘Rad LIsted’ vibe where I only briefly touch on the games.

Frostpunk

Frostpunk is the latest game from developer 11 Bit Studios. This is one of my favorite developers, and they’re responsible for the creation of This War of MIne.  Frostpunk is a dystopian city and society builder where you must keep your population alive and thriving during an apocalyptic ice age. You’ll have to make some really tough decisions on how you’ll rule your city, such as child labor and double work shifts just to scrape by. This game came out just recently on April 24th, and it’s rocking an 85 on Metacritic, which is pretty good! You’ll only find it on PC for now.

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire

Pillars of Eternity is Obsidian Entertainment’s latest game and sequel to the original Pillars of Eternity, and released just recently on May 8th. If you like party-based RPGs in the same vein as Baldur’s gate, and, more recently, Divinity Original Sin, then this is the game for you! The first Pillars of Eternity was a fantastic game with good story beats, so I have high hopes for this one. Currently, you’ll only be finding this on PC, as well. Pillars of Eternity is rockin a really high metacritic score, too, so this is one you won’t want to miss!

Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Kingdom Come Deliverance came out back in February, but I felt it warranted mention, as I enjoyed it immensely and am looking forward to diving back into it when I find time. KCD was kickstarted years ago back in January 2014, so it was a long wait!

KCD is a first-person RPG, but what makes it unique is that it’s an authentic medieval setting, free of magic and other fantasy tropes.  It’s also historically accurate (well, as historically accurate as a game can be). I had a lot of fun with it, despite all the bugs at release. If you enjoy games like Skyrim and Fallout, you’ll probably enjoy Kingdom Come. You can find the game on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

State of Decay 2

State of Decay 2 comes out today! (May 22nd) for PC (Win 10 only) and Xbox One. The first State of Decay was a fun zombie survival game with survival sim mechanics, like base building, scavenging, and RPG skill mechanics. State of Decay 2 is much of the same, but with improved systems and up to four player co-op. I’m looking forward to checking this one out (whenever I get Windows 10!)

Beat Saber (VR)

Now, I don’t have a VR, but watching a gameplay video of Beat Saber makes me want to get it! This is a bit of a last minute addition, but I saw a video for the this game and just fell in love. It’s a beat game involving dual lightsabers, and as the music plays, blocks that need to be sliced a certain direction stream by. Not only that, but there are also obstacles you have to dodge while hitting the beats. The game is currently in early access and only has about 10 songs, but they plan on adding more, as well as an editor to add your own songs. And to think, we used to make fun of the Star Wars Kid!

Battletech

Battletech just came out last month (April 24th) and I’m pretty excited to eventually dive in. This game comes from a developer I really respect: Harebrained Schemes, makers of the Shadowrun fantasy steampunk games. Battletech is similar to the turn-based tactical RPG action of Xcom, but with giant, customizable murderbots! What’s not to love!? Battletech has been reviewing quite well, and if you’re a fan of the new Xcom games, you’ll love this one. For now, you’ll only find Battletech on PC.
