My oh my! I have not been so enamored with a game since Skyrim! The storytelling, the combat, the music, and even the card game, Gwent, all have me hooked. The Witcher 3 is unparalleled when it comes to creating a large world while remaining dense with interesting characters, quests, and environments. This may be the best open-world RPG yet! A more detailed post regarding the game will be coming soon. The Witcher 3 is available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

I spent some time on an airplane last week, so I sought some distraction, which I found in a mobile game called Knights of Pen & Paper– a game to defeat all meta references! The game involves you playing a game where you play as the individuals playing a DnD game. While it sounds completely convoluted (which is part of the joke I suppose), it’s actually pretty fun to play. Not only do you manage the characters, you can also purchase various dungeon master items that modify the game rules to your advantage or just change up the pace of the game. You can even change your dungeon master!

The game also features a leveling system, an inventory and equipment system, and the traditional turn-based combat.  Knights of Pen & Paper can be found on Apple and Android devices, and soon will be finding its way onto Steam.

My quest to find mobile entertainment also came in the form of Ire: Blood Memory. This is a free-to-play game, and while there are microtransactions present, the creators of the game don’t blast you with it. It’s a third person hack-and-slash game that many refer to as: ‘Dark Souls Mobile’. While I disagree with the sentiment, the game is enjoyable, if not a bit grindy. The game consists of generated kill quests, and you must hack, block, and dodge your way to victory. Ire is on Apple and Android devices.

 Nintendo: Punch Out

Still occasionally plugging away at Punch Out.  I’ve finally mastered Bald Bull and the second incarnation of Piston Honda, but Soda Popinski!? This is when the game truly becomes challenging. Soda Popinski is so fast, I can’t even react to his tells. Am I just getting old, or is Soda Popinski a pop-chugging punching machine?
